Couples Counseling

These are some of the common problems couples who are struggling in their relationship have:

  • Feeling alone or distant Couples Counseling
  • Limited intimacy/ or none
  • Increase in Fighting
  • Presence of Four Horseman (criticism, defensiveness, contempt, and stonewalling). These are the traits Gottman says if present are significant predictors of an impending divorce.
  • Infidelity or Issues of Trust
  • Financial
  • Familial Tension/Interference
  • Adjustment Issues related to birth of a child or empty nest

The problem for most people is they have not learned skills for managing these issues.  The good news is these are all issues I can help you with.

In counseling sessions with me you will learn:

  • Communication skills to get your needs/expectations known and understood
  • Learn to resolve conflicts which are resolvable and accept those that aren’t as possible differences in personalities or values
  • Explore blocks to deeper intimacy including stress, health, financial, or emotional wounds
  • An understanding of where some of your relationship expectations and beliefs come from and how they play a role in your current relationship, so you can move beyond them.
  • If you or your partner has had an affair (whether emotional or physical), I will help both partners with maneuvering through the healing process, to hopefully a stronger , deeper relationship
  • Feel more secure with sharing your inner dreams with your partner, and working toward manifesting them

Couples who should consider my help are:

  • Newly engaged couples who would like premarital counseling
  • Couples who are not married, but are very committed to the relationship
  • Married couples struggling with any of the above issues
  • Same sex couples who want to maintain a long term committed relationship but are running into blocks
  • Couples who have had a number of life changes that just seems to have derailed their previous relationship

Thought for the day, “What goes up must come down.”  How many of you felt this way after the infatuation for your partner melted?  This is not an uncommon reaction.  We are so caught up in the euphoria of love and idealization that our expectations set us up for a big drop.  Once this sets in, we are left with real life and working on a long term relationship, or considering other options.  Most people don’t know how to begin to do this, so they just do the familiar which is what their parents or role models did.  Let me help you begin a new more satisfying journey.

Begin today to have a real love characterized by joy, disappointment, hurt, trust, fear, conflict, pain, and happiness.  Yes these all exist in good relationships. Ultimately, you will have a deeper friendship and an inner sense of security.

Call Karen now at 920-884-1145 to begin your new journey.
