EMDR
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) was developed by Francine Shapiro, PhD., in 1987. It is an approach to therapy, widely accepted and scientifically proven effective for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other psychological issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem, phobias (i.e. flying and public speaking) and depression.
Although it was initially developed for problem oriented issues, EMDR has been found to be extremely beneficial to people trying to improve their performance or overcome blocks to achieving their full potential.

In theory, when a trauma occurs it seems to get locked in the nervous system with the original picture (image), sensations (sounds or senses), thoughts, and feelings.
The eye movements or use of left/right stimulation (i.e. a music CD with left/right sound or tapping on left/right hands) seems to unlock the nervous system and allow the brain to process the trauma in a way that desensitizes the power it previously had. You are always in control, and it is your brain and memory that you are healing.

Testimonials from my clients who have benefited from EMDR:
Work Issues: “I have worked on a myriad of issues, from problems with a supervisor to dealing with guilt, most of all the process of EMDR has fostered feelings of confidence and trust, that I have the power within me to solve my own issues with my own creativity.”
Sports: “EMDR has done wonders for my tennis game, allowing me to regain confidence and self assurance. Nervousness and doubt once hampered my game, but EMDR helped this as well. Now I am less anxious on the tennis court, and have found that EMDR has also helped me be much less uneasy in new social situations, which were previously uncomfortable.”
Flying: “EMDR has given me back my confidence to do everyday things without being nervous or anxious. I had a terrible fear of flying (and wanted o fly to see my grand baby) and had to take medication just to get on the plane. I just recently returned home from a trip to see that grand baby and am proud to say I did it without drugs, alone, and successfully.”
